Hand and power tools allow employees to perform tasks which they could never do without them. But resources are also dangerous. Injuries involving hand and power tools send almost half a million people to the emergency room every year, and lead to a significant number of fatalities.

Appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety goggles and gloves must be worn to protect against hazards that might be encountered while using tools. Workplace floors shall be kept as clean and dry as possible to prevent accidental slips with or about dangerous hand tools.

Power tools have to be fitted with guards and safety switches; they are really toxic when used improperly. The types of power tools have been depending on their power supply: electric, pneumatic, liquid fuel, hydraulic, and powder-actuated.
